One of the best things that I experienced last year was our trip to the East Coast. I thought October was a good month to travel because of the weather - it was just the perfect blend of breeze and sunshine.

New Jersey was our headquarters. But our first tourist destination was Philadelphia, followed by Washington DC.

I knew that there will be a lot of walking. And I also knew that I will get cold easily. But what I really prepared for was the running after M and playing. I wore my reliable flats, my favorite jeans and my colors.

As a kid, I thought of Lego as a 'batchmate' of Barbie dolls. It was like Lego blocks for boys and Barbie dolls for girls...by default! As years passed, I learned that Lego blocks are not the usual building blocks. Not the blocks that you put together and knock down (though we can still do that just for kicks). But I don't want to do that with the Lego models in Legoland.

That's not a Lego model, nor a model for Lego.

Legoland is a huge theme park where you can spend time with your family, kids and friends, revisit the child in you or like in my case, celebrate a birthday (which I did last year). Aside from Legos galore, there are rides for all ages and a water park. It is worth the trip!

I wish there is a Barbieland...I'd go there for my next birthday...

This is my first outfit post for the year. Don't you just like marking things, events and whatnot "first"!?

This was shot two weeks ago, before the 'symptoms' took over. The week that followed was really challenging (physically) - I was not feeling well. But the 'sickness' had a very good explanation which I will reveal soon. And thanks to the power of sleep, I think I'm a lot better now.

Vintage Wednesday #7

Trifari started creating exquisite costume jewelry in the 1900s. The company was known for the exceptional craftsmanship and high quality materials they put in every piece. It's no surprise that this name brings delight to many vintage jewelry collectors.

This set has a gold tone ring and 4 cabochons (originally 5, but I gave the turquoise to my mom). I really like the dome shape (it adds dimension) and the weave/cage design of the setting. I read that the colors of the cabochons were inspired by the valuable stones - lapis, ivory, ruby and jade. Just brilliant!

A ring is good...

But 4 is better!

It's so good to be back. Some of my friends asked me why I 'disappeared' online. I was just too busy. And I just preferred to keep this private while I'm away. But I'm glad and grateful that some of my friends expressed their interest. I'm more inspired. Thanks!

Stop(ped). Look(ed). Listen(ed) - what I did this weekend.

Life has been hectic lately. We're in transition and travel modes (thus the 'out of blog' mode). The little lady is slowly transitioning to Pre-K, we're moving to a new apartment in a couple of months and I'm setting up a (mini) online shop.

I was also busy preparing for our Labor Day weekend. We spent the weekend in San Diego. We went to the beach, downtown and Legoland. Fun, fun, fun! Another highlight of our vacation is our dinner at Blue Point Restaurant. Yum, yum, yum! I highly recommend this restaurant. We also enjoyed the weather, a perfect blend of cool and warm.

We're back and fully recharged. Pick up where we left off (plus more). But my excitement this time is different because the next vacation we're preparing for is for the East Coast.

We spent the Christmas season in Las Vegas last year. I was, of course, excited to visit Las Vegas for the first time. I somehow prepared myself for sensory overload. But it was different when I actually got there. It was winter but the sights and sounds kept the ambiance of the city warm.

Las Vegas is more than a cluster of casinos. The city is vibrant and dynamic. It's no wonder that it became a favorite backdrop.

I really enjoyed every second of our stay (sans sensory overload and casinos). I really like to go back.

1. Should someone's size stop them from fashion blogging or having a voice in the community?

NO. N.O. Size is not the be-all and end-all of a person and of blogging.

2. In your opinion, can the term "curvy" and "plus-sized" be used interchangeably when it comes to fashion?

I think these words are often misused. A plus-sized individual can be curvy. One can be curvaceous but is not considered plus-sized. Each term has its own definition and proper use.

3. Many people make the argument that catering to plus sized women would promote being overweight as "okay". What do you think? Should more designers be catering to plus size women?

Plus size is not and should not be synonymous with overweight. And yes, designers should cater to plus-sized women. They are also able consumers who are equally deserving of well-designed and fashionable clothes.

4. Should the mainstream fashion industry be showcasing more plus size models?

Yes. This world is full of people in different colors, shapes and sizes. It's reality.

5. For you personally, how do you view your size, the struggle with it through the years, your ideal size, etc...

I don't know my ideal size, really. I wear clothes from size 0 to 6. What is important to me is that I'm comfortable with what I'm wearing.

It's ok for someone to have 'ideal size' as a goal. But I still believe that health should be the primary reason for choosing to work out, to diet or just to be fit.

20/30: Naming Game

This top is a favorite favorite! I call this top 'Pucci-esque' (similar to here and here). I really like the vibrant colors, the geometric lines and the material, chiffon. Chiffon is one of my favorite fabrics. It's feminine, flowy and luxurious.

After months of dreaming, a few days of waiting and a few hours of drama, I finally got my YSL Arty Oval ring (similar here and here). Arty, as I call her, is just 2 weeks old. I started to dream of her after seeing the coral version from Andy of Style Scrapbook. I like how chunky the ring is and its regal appeal. I am excited to pass this on to my daughter someday.

17/30: Denim Dress 2

This is a continuation of my previous post.

And also, last Wednesday was my sweet husband's birthday! And yes, he spent his day running errands with me and taking pictures. And so after doing grown-up stuff, I ditched the cardigan, and we had a coffee date, which is yeah, another grown-up thing but a lot, lot more FUN. Then we picked up our princess and off we went to have dinner.

So about this dress... This is another Veronica's Closet item. It's denim but it's light. I like the silhouette of this dress and as you can see, I'm all about the skirt!

16/30: Denim Dress 1

Last Wednesday was errands day, a productive one. It was more than a hundred degrees outside but I was covered up. But it was ok since I was in buildings most of the time and I thought that the cardigan was appropriate for the 'transactions' I had.

I can walk and stand for hours on these Jessica Bennett wedges (similar here and here). The cut-out detail gave that unique touch and the colorful leather straps, when you touch it, you know that it is quality. And so ever since I had these gorgeousness, I am playing with the idea of collecting a few(?) cut-out or sculpted wedges. But it remains just that, an idea...until I complete the challenge.

TGIF! Woohoo!

1. Do you think privacy is something we should worry about as bloggers?
That was my first concern when I was just about to start my blog. I still think about it but I think I'm more 'equipped' now. As I go along, I become more proactive to look for, and later on use tools that can help protect blogger privacy. And before I actually started blogging, I already sorted or screened the types of information I want to share with the world.

2. Do you use your real name or a pen name? What was behind that decision?

I am using my nickname. I think it's (short and sweet) casual to use just my nickname.

3. How much personal information do you reveal about your life beyond the blog?

Sharing stories and pictures of my husband, daughter and family is fine with me. General details are also ok, for example - the tourist spot we went to during a vacation.

4. What will you never reveal?

Detailed details (you get the picture). I will not reveal detailed vacation plans, my address or contact number - they don't have anything to do with my blog anyway.

5. As bloggers, we have to an extent made ourselves 'public' figures. But still there are things that are intimate to each of us that does not need to be known by anyone that stumbles across our blog. How do you determine what is appropriate for public consumption and what is private to you?

I trust my comfort level when putting contents on my blog. I also try to do things moderately like, I don't go ahead and put all the pictures from our vacation. I also choose topics that are familiar or common to others, something that people can relate to.

Go Green

I like reading magazines, and yes, including from past years. And so when I was tidying up our living room this morning, I saw 'my pile' and decided to leaf through the glossies. I realized that I linger a bit on pages with green dresses. Maybe it's selective, maybe. As of late, I'm drawn to a lot of green - dresses, shoes, jewelry and even legwear. I find green fresh (like mint) and rich (like jewel).

And because I miss my other clothes, especially my dresses (and I'm only half way through 30 for 30), I snapped pictures of my favorite frocks (they make me happier!). These are from back issues but they look timeless to me.

Friend Friday: Blogger Jealousy

This week's questions are thought-provoking. Hhhmmm....

1. How do you define jealousy?

In the context of blogging, I'll define it as envy - wanting to have someone else's qualities, possessions and accomplishments.

2. When do you find you experience a bit of blogger jealousy?

I really don't think I've experienced blogger jealousy. I mean, yes, it happens. It may happen to me in the future (but I doubt it). But I think I'm preoccupied with soooo many things already which I feel strongly about. So I think jealousy can't squeeze in anymore.

3. What types of blogs or which bloggers are you a little jealous of?

I really, really like blogs with gorgeous houses or indoor locations as their (style photo) backdrops or as topics. I think I have a thousand dream houses already from frequently visiting these blogs.

4. From the time we're little we are taught that jealousy is a bad thing, but it can also inspire us to be better. Have you changed the way you do things, the content of your blog, etc... as a result of what someone else is doing?

I haven't done that. My primary reason for blogging is to have an online journal (I'm more than grateful that there are people who drop by). I intend to make it better, of course, but the call for changes should be based on what I see from my own blog. I know that sooner or later, I'll get ideas from other blogs. But I still have to re-design that idea to make it my own and more fitting to my preference and my blog.

5. What is the best way to overcome jealousy in the blogosphere and in life?

I still believe that one should count his/her blessings. You've got to move forward with better attitude and perspective. Find joy in what you're doing. Don't forget to have fun.

11/30: Cravings

Cup noodles for breakfast. Oh believe me, this is unusual. I am not a fan of cup or instant noodles. But for some reason, I didn't care about the sodium.

Then I wanted pancakes for lunch. I thought I'd be able to finish 3 huge pieces. But no! I just managed to finish one and a half. I found this strange because really, I can finish 5 in one sitting.

This is me after 1.5 pancakes.

10/30: Hangover

It's either I'm exhausted (from I don't know what) or I'm having a hard time bouncing back from vacation. Or maybe both. Usually, I feel recharged after a vacation. But maybe since this was a very short one, recovering from R&R is a bit of a challenge. But hey, it's always better to have one than none, right?

Anyway, here's my Day 10 outfit (finally!). I wore my blue knit dress with a colorful vintage belt and my ever reliable flats when we went to Sedona. I wore this dress a gazillion times already but this was the first time I wore it with a belt. Yehey for belts!

This was a super simple DIY. I got the original necklace for under $2. The buy-in was the Chanel-esque chain. The original pendant - I'm not sure what it is.

But since I really like the chain, I decided to do a very minor accessory renovation. I went to Jo-Ann and saw this lion pendant which was on sale. It has an antique look to it which I like. It was also nice to add a little fierceness to my accessory collection.

We were under excessive heat warning last week. I felt like dim sum in a steamer (just drop the edibility).

But the summer goddess mellowed out this week. It's all good. I hope it stays that way (or better) so that we can really, really enjoy our mini vacation this weekend.

I feel like this week's topic is telling me something...

1. When you hear the word Fitness what do you think?I think of exercise. I think of a pile of vegetables and fruits. Yeah, the food pyramid, something like that. Diet and fitness - I think they're inseparable.

2. Do you have a workout routine? Well...I had.
What's your favorite way to workout? There was a period that I got serious about working out and the threadmill became my buddy. I also like aerobics and dancing.

3. To you, what is the purpose of exercise?

I believe exercise makes one healthy. It's beyond physical. It's there, in many forms, so that we can get rid of the sluggishness and toxins from our mind and body.

4. Do you think it is possible to be feminine and still workout?

Absolutely! I understand how some women like to look a certain way and they work out so that they can achieve that.

5. What do you think about the people who are workout obsessed? (You know those women and the gym who spend 4 hours working out and have more muscles than some men.)
I remembered Olivia's Rule of Life #28: I know this is hard to believe, but more of something isn't always better.

I built my Day 8 outfit around this necklace.

I first saw this style of necklace from Preview Magazine - 2009 Best-Dressed issue. Kai Lim, one of the Best-Dressed ladies, was wearing the Stormy Sea necklace from Anthropologie. Right then, I knew I had to put it on my wish list.

I can't remember anymore if I actually looked for it. Weird. Then one day, while browsing through a Forever21 shop in CA, I saw the Pear Shaped Collar. I instantly grabbed one and happily crossed an item off my list.

I just joined and went ahead with my answers (even if it's not Friday). =D

1. What's your most versatile piece of clothing? How do you wear it?
It's a shirt dress. I like that it's one piece - grab (of course, wear) and go! I can match it with flats, wedges, heels and even sneakers. I can pile accessories on it or just leave it as it is. Casual or dressy, I feel put-together in a shirt dress.

2. What one piece should every woman own?

A wrap dress. True! Whatever your shape is, a wrap dress is a good addition to your closet. A printed wrap can be an easy statement piece while a solid colored one can be a beautiful base for adding accessories and shoes.

3. What summer trends do you love because of their versatility?

A maxi dress can be tricky to wear especially if you're on the petite side (like me). I found a cut that suits me and I just love wearing it. It's feminine and comfortable. It can also easily transition into fall with a cardigan, blazer or cropped jacket.

4. What's the most creative combination you've put together from your closet? Hhhhmmm... I have this vintage belt that I like wearing as a necklace. When I'm wearing a top that makes me want to press the snooze button, I just add the belt/necklace.

5. If you had the guts what items would you pair and then wear out in public?

I guess it's going to be 'print on print'. I'm just not sure how it will look on me. But I like to wear it someday.

7/30: Easy & Not

This dress was an easy choice for the mix. There are so many ways to style it. And I think this number can go with all my shoes (well, maybe not my trainers).

I got this clutch from one of my favorite consignment stores. I think the envelope zippers, lock and key make it more special. It may look complicated because you have to deal with the lock and key, and fidget with the leather a bit to open it. I still like it a lot anyway.

I have yet to post my Day 6 and Day 7 favorites. I was busy with chores, mini projects (and watching House Hunters) that I didn't get the chance to blog hop. I should do that today. See you!

Two things that made my Friday extra special:

(1) I saw a pair of adorable identical twins (I mean, when was the last time I saw identical twins face to face?!). They are my daughter's classmates. And they're friendly and kind to my little girl.

(2) I had the most delicious (to date) fresh Vietnamese spring rolls.

5/30: First Black & White

Black. This is not really my go-to color. I have very few black items in my closet (I don't even have an LBD) and I'm not sure if I want to add more. But just like many, I'm a believer of its flairs - basic, classic, slimming, safe(?), versatile, elegant and the list goes on.

White. This too, is not my go-to color. But this one, I'm sure, I like to have more. I'm still looking for the perfect LWD and button down shirt. There's just something about white that's so appealing to me. It's just...simply...clean, fresh and easy.

We wrapped up October (2009) with a trip to Sedona - our first out of the city/within the state/long drive family trip. It was a scenic drive – monoliths left and right. The rock mountains are HUGE...promise! Makes you wonder how nature works…in this case, amazingly.

We went to Sedona to experience a bit of autumn. We went there to SEE autumn. We can feel autumn in the city alright, but no fall foliage in sight. Cactus just can’t give you that effect. =D

Vintage Wednesday #2

One of the many things I like about vintage clothing is the quality. So even if you reconstruct, let’s say, a dress, you can expect that the material will still be intact. What’s even better is that you have a ‘new’ dress!

This dress WAS a vintage day dress with sleeves and length that grazed the floor (given my height...hehe). I had it remade to what it is now – sleeveless, short and with pockets. On the side part of the skirt are the original accent buttons.

This fun shoot was taken on the first Sunday of spring. Notice the print and the colors? Foliage in spring colors...it’s lyrical to me.

I'm wearing a top from one of my favorite designers -Tsumori Chisato .

Her designs are unique and quirky but very wearable. She combines whimsical and edgy to perfection.

And if you love prints, I highly suggest that you check out her collections.

Manhattan Beach

Coming from a tropical country with so many beautiful beaches, I was always curious to find out how are the beaches of other countries look and feel like. And so when I knew that we will stay here for quite a period of time, I put “Beach(es)” on my must-see/do list.

And so we hit the shores of California on our Memorial Day weekend. I didn’t get to swim but the sights, sand and sun were more than enough to complete the experience.

Milestones we marked:

my second beach trip (Newport Beach is my first) but FIRST with my husband
my first ever jump shot
our first ever jump shot as a couple...hehe

2/30: Get well

Whenever my daughter sees bugs, she’d say, ‘Shoo! Don’t bother mom!’ And the bugs will go away.

I wish she’ll say the same to my PMS! And I wish PMS will actually go away!

Ugh! P-M-S! You’re making me a drama queen! Ugh!

Anyway...sleepy and achy, I reached for a dress.

Comfy? Check!

Fab? It’s comfy!

I grabbed my favorite wedges (this pair was a ‘must-buy-at-first-sight’) which happen to be very comfortable too and put a bit of gold here and there. This is my Day 2.

Oh well...You do or don’t do things when you’re not feeling well. But I had to make it through the day. I had to shake this off! And I did it by...dancing!

Please excuse me for these ‘dance’ photos. Like I said, you do (crazy) things when you’re not feeling well.

~DAY 2 Favorite~
The ladies of 30 for 30 are really stepping it up! I had a hard time picking my favorite because everybody’s looking great! But I think everybody will agree with my choice.

My favorite Day 2 look is: Little Tin Soldier! I like the pop of her skirt. Yellow and red combo can be very tricky but Linda really pulled it off – really pretty!

Vintage Wednesday #1

I am a collector of many things. Vintage is one of them.

I like how they look. I like owning things that lived. I like that they have 'staying power'. And do you notice the details of vintage items? The intricacy, the distinctiveness and the quality...

I want to share my fondness for vintage. And so...Every Wednesday, I will have a 'show and tell' of my vintage collection - one item / one set per week (until I finish my inventory(?)).

Let's start today!

I wore this dress for our visit to The Huntington. This dress was a natural choice. It is an In Roads dress (from the 70s). The dress is lightweight and flowy. My favorite parts of this dress is the lovely print and the flutter sleeves.

The Huntington (Memorial Day Weekend '10)

If you happen to be in Southern California (or planning to go there), I highly recommend adding The Huntington in your itinerary.

This place has beautiful gardens (Yes, gardenS! The place is huge.), impressive library and great art collections to boot. They also have a cute souvenir shop with lots of pretty and interesting items.

By the way, don't forget to bring your cameras. This place is so scenic, you can't help but take a picture...or lots!

1/30: Lounging and Treats

Did everybody have a relaxing long weekend? I'm super glad that I had. Well...it's almost over but I hope everyone's recharged.

Today was a day of...lounging and treats. I stayed late in bed! I'm sure other moms will agree that this one's a sweet treat. Hehe. My dear daughter stayed later than I am and I took advantage of it. Then my dear husband cooked Sinigang, a Filipino dish, for lunch. It was a yummy treat! We decided to stay at home and nap the afternoon away. I didn't cook for dinner so we just ordered pizza.

And so 30 for 30 Challenge begins! For my first day, I mixed neutrals and colors.

Hmmm...I think everybody should have a perfect white shirt.

Feeling the 4th of July

Happy Independence Day, America! I hope everyone had a great 4^th of July.

We spent ours by eating out, going to the church and shopping a little. These are our usual weekend activities except that today we hopped around in red, white and blue.

Let me just tell you something about my dress. I bought this dress from Veronica’s Closet, an online shop based in the Philippines. When I saw the dress, I thought it was adorable (it still is) – with its vibrant colors and cute little sailboat print. I love colors and prints and this dress fits to a T. This dress reminds me of two things – nautical and 4^th of July. And how excited I was to wear this dress today and for the first time!

Ok! I'm now on air/connected! After x months of contemplating whether I'll put up a blog or not, I just did it! Finally! I just soooo have many reasons to have one. And on top of my head right now are the following:

~ To have an online inventory of my wardrobe

~ To showcase my hubby's photography

~ To share my enthusiasm for fashion, food and (maybe) everything in between

~ To think aloud

I want to literally look back at the memories. I want to see our dreams fulfilled and unfolding. I want to articulate my gratitude.
